I just wrote an entry on “film” on my site.
Language often doesn’t keep up with changing technology.
Our local “film” festival is actually called “Celluloid Bainbridge” although only DVDs are shown.
There really doesn’t seem to be a good synonym for the verb “to film” without using “to videotape”—which is similarly becoming obsolete as fewer cameras use tape.
Sometimes usefulness trumps precision.
