Literally comical

Christopher Muther, writing in The Boston Globe about non-literal use of the word “literally,” quoted my entry on the subject: “Don’t say of someone that he ‘literally blew up’ unless he swallows a stick of dynamite.’’ Ben Zimmer was also cited in the article, which led to an August 15 Language Log entry on the subject.

I’m not sure whether any of this inspired today’s Zits comic strip, but I love it.
